Slow Cooker Southern Style Pulled Pork with White Sauce
Oh, the flavors in this simple dish! If you're not familiar with southern style bbq, it's more vinegar based, which gives it a nice, tangy flavor. The white sauce is completely optional, but it adds to the dish. Make sure to use pork shoulder (butt) for a lot of tenderness and extra flavor. We like to enjoy this as sandwiches, but you can totally make a salad out of it or serve it with some mashies or flavored rice on the side. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
For pork:
-6-7 lbs bone-in pork shoulder (aka pork butt, Boston butt, shoulder roast)
-3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
-1/2 cup water
-3 Tbs packed brown sugar
-2 tsp salt
-1 tsp pepper
-1 tsp onion powder
-1/2 tsp garlic powder
-1/2 tsp dry mustard
-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
-1/2 tsp chili powder
For white sauce:
-1/2 cup mayonnaise
-2 Tbs white vinegar
-2 tsp prepared creamy horseradish
-1 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
-1/2 tsp pepper
-1/4 tsp salt
Directions:
Coat your slow cooker with cooking spray. Place the pork shoulder inside. In a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients, then pour over pork.
Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours. Once done, carefully remove the bone. Using two forks, shred the pork right there in the slow cooker in that delicious brine.
Mix all of the sauce ingredients until nice and smooth.
Toast some buns, spread some of the white sauce on both halves, then top with some delicious pork. Enjoy! YUM!
